Slab City, California

Slab City, built on an abandoned military base, is a decommissioned area in the State of California, with no electricity, running water, sewers, toilets, or trash pickup. Known as “The Last Free Place in America,” squatters live there off the grid, free of things like property taxes and utility bills. I recommend combining this with a visit to Salvation Mountain and East Jesus, both a few minutes away, as well as Joshua Tree, a two-hour drive.

Hi, I'm Koren! I started this blog back in 2012, when I was an unhappy lawyer living in New York City. I needed a creative outlet, and I've always loved writing, photography, and travel. Little did I know, this blog would end up changing my life! Since then, I've moved to California and done a total life and career transformation. After a five-year hiatus, I'm excited to share recent photography here.
