Dancing Ivy on Bond Street

One of the best things about living in New York is finding art in unexpected places.  Bond Street is a cobblestone street in NoHo that dons patterned sidewalks (pictured below) and is itself a work of art.

After dining at Il Buco recently, I noticed something I previously had not.  On the exterior of 24 Bond, home to the Gene Frankel Theater, are several dancing gold statues by Bruce Williams, added to the historic building in 1998.  They reminded me of ivy the way they whimsically danced up the side of a building.

The dancing statues had to be retroactively approved by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission when the building became part of the NoHo historic district in 2008.  Following an unsuccessful attempt to have the dancers removed, in 2010 Bruce Williams extended the gold statues to vertically span the left side of the building.  No two golden statues are alike.

Art is all around you in New York, so it’s important to keep your eyes open, and sometimes you have to look up!

Hi, I'm Koren! I started this blog back in 2012, when I was an unhappy lawyer living in New York City. I needed a creative outlet, and I've always loved writing, photography, and travel. Little did I know, this blog would end up changing my life! Since then, I've moved to California and done a total life and career transformation. After a five-year hiatus, I'm excited to share recent photography here.
